Rooted in Rondo

Rooted in Rondo is a youth produced short documentary and audio piece that explores the histories, legacies, and future of Saint Paul’s historic Rondo neighborhood. This project features interviews of prominent Rondo residents, oral histories of past residents, and stories from current community members. Rooted in Rondo tells narrative stories from this historic Black neighborhood, pre and post construction of Interstate 94. Rooted in Rondo addresses what makes a community and how it heals after displacement and trauma. This project is a product of Saint Paul Almanac, in partnership with Saint Paul Neighborhood Network and WFNU Frogtown Community Radio.

Artist Bios:

Bianca Rhodes is an Emmy Award-Winning Media Professional, Production Manager at Saint Paul Neighborhood Network and CEO & Founder at BLovely Productions.

Katharine DeCelle is an audio and video producer for Sounds Powerful Productions, a company she founded in 2017 and co-director of WFNU Frogtown Community Radio Saint Paul.

Melvin Giles is the coordinator of the St. Paul-based Urban Farm and Garden Alliance and Director of The Storymobile project He is a veteran peace, diversity, and dismantling racism educator. He has extensive experience working with youth, academia, government agencies, nonprofit agencies and neighborhood groups.

Indigo Grey Liu (they/them) is graduating senior in high school. They are a part of Listen Up Youth Radio and they are passionate about empowering youth through audio storytelling.

Jasmine McBride (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist, radio personality, and host from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is a prominent writer and public speaker, and has spoken in many major cities across the U.S., including Denver, where she opened a TEDx event.

Angelo Bush is a Photographer and Videographer currently working as a social media intern with ReConnect Rondo.

Kojak DeAnthoney Acon is a 22yr old photographer and videographer from St. Paul. He claims his days by choosing the camera as his choice of weapon and using to control and create his narrative.
